Mechanical Engineering
Mechanical Engineering plays a vital role in shaping modern society by contributing to sectors such as Agriculture, Manufacturing, Transportation, Healthcare, Energy, and Space Exploration. From designing components and machines to developing advanced systems and processes, mechanical engineers drive innovation, entrepreneurship, and productivity, contributing significantly to economic growth and technological advancement.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in 1968 as a core supporting department for various engineering disciplines under the Faculty of Technology. To meet the growing demand for industry-ready professionals, the department launched the B.Tech. program in 2010. The department also offers M.Tech. with specialization in CAD- CAM and a PhD program, fostering advanced learning, research, and innovation.
Vision

Through their mentorship, dynamic teaching practices, and continuous guidance, students are encouraged to excel in academics, technical competitions, research activities, and successful professional careers.
Professional Student Chapters
The department actively promotes technical and professional growth through the DDU ISHRAE Student Chapter and the DDU Mechanical Engineering Student Association (DDU-MESA). These platforms help students strengthen skills in HVAC, design, manufacturing, and automation through workshops, seminars, industrial visits, competitions, and expert lectures. Regular interactions with industry professionals and academicians expose students to emerging technologies, innovation, and current industrial practices.
Holistic Student Development
The department strongly promotes the overall growth of students beyond academics through active participation in technical, cultural, and sports activities. Students are encouraged and supported to participate in DDU Sports Club, Spandan – Music club, Shutterbugs – photography hobbyists’ club, Khel Mahakumbh, NSS, national-level Techfest, GATE preparation, and NPTEL certification courses. The department also facilitates summer internships in reputed industries, helping students gain practical exposure, confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills.
Research & Innovation Ecosystem
The Mechanical Engineering Department is committed to fostering excellence in research and innovation by providing a dynamic environment for faculty members, research scholars, and UG/PG students. The department has established advanced research laboratories in Material Science, Tribology, and Automobile Engineering, supported by modern software tools such as Ansys, Creo, MATLAB, Mastercam, SolidWorks, and Autodesk products. The department has also developed two Centres of Excellence. One with Bosch Rexroth in Robotics and Automation, and another with SAP in IoT, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.
The department offers doctoral research opportunities in Automation Technology, Tribology, Machine Design, Automobile Engineering, Lean Six Sigma, and Advanced Manufacturing Technology.
